How To Create the Trending Lived-in Waves with Quif’s Magi:form
Published date 23 June 2025

Quif’s Magi:form permanent waving system is changing the narrative on perms and reshaping the way stylists and clients think about texture. By creating soft, wearable results that mimic the most in-demand and trending looks, it’s never been easier to offer clients a low-maintenance alternative to daily heat styling.
If your clients dream of effortless styles that they can wake up to every day, we have a step-by-step tutorial on how to recreate a soft, natural look using Magi:form, with expert top tips from the professionals themselves. Discover how to create these trendy, soft, natural waves in these simple steps…
Step 1: Prep, prep, prep!
The perfect permanent wave starts with the right prep. Firstly, start with a deep cleansing shampoo, such as the [wa]shed by Shed Clean Slate detoxifying shampoo, to remove any impurities from the hair. This is a crucial step to setting the foundation for an even, long-lasting result.
Step 2: Section and Wind
For a soft wave finish (similar to the effect of a large barrel tong), reach for the Magi:former bendy rods in size XXL to help build fullness and that lived-in texture. Firstly, take large sections of the hair, around 3 inches wide, to create a more relaxed and airy look. Start your first roller by winding onto the face to create that trendy flick, or to enhance a curtain bang, Sabrina Carpenter style. Continue the process with the top section rollers going back and under. On the sides, split the hair vertically in two, then wind off the face to create the soft effect. Working towards the middle back, keep a consistent vertical pattern, and for the nape, take a thick horizontal section and wind under to build shape and bounce.
Pro Tip: Make sure to maintain even tension from root to tip when winding to avoid the dreaded ‘fish hook’ effect.
Step 3: Mix & Apply the Activator
Using the Magi:form activator, squeeze this slowly into the Magi:form lotion to prevent a surge of bubbles. Give the formula a good shake to make sure it is properly mixed together. Once mixed, use cotton wool along the hairline to protect your client’s skin from drips from the activator. Saturate each roller thoroughly, starting from the bottom of the head up. For the front sections, have your client tilt their head back to avoid drips and ensure the hair is fully saturated.
Step 4: Process, Neutralise, and Style
Process for up to 20 minutes, checking in every 5 minutes to monitor the waving progress, as well as taking into account your client’s hair type and condition. Once processing is complete, take the Magi:form conditioning neutraliser and neutralise as instructed, then remove the Magi:former rods. Diffuse dry and watch the texture come to life!
Why stylists are loving Magi:form
With Quif Magi:form, this gives stylists the freedom to create modern, wearable texture, without compromising the client’s hair integrity. Whether your clients want loose, beachy waves or a soft, face-framing bang, this waving system makes it easy to say goodbye to daily heat tools and hello to effortless, ‘I woke up like this’ textured hair, day after day.
