Recycle MY Salon - Hair Salon Recycling
In the fast-paced world of hair salons, where creativity and style take center stage, it's easy to overlook the impact that the industry has on the environment. However, with an increasing focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, many salons are recognising the crucial role they play in creating a greener future. One key aspect that contributes significantly to this effort is recycling.
Hair salons generate a substantial amount of waste, ranging from empty product containers and used foils to discarded paper and plastics. Embracing recycling practices in salons not only minimises the environmental footprint but also aligns with the growing awareness of responsible business operations.
Established in 1927, the HBSA has consistently stood as a dedicated supporter of the hair and beauty industry. Despite the evolving times, its objectives remain steadfast. On an annual basis, the hair and beauty sector introduces millions of products into the market. Manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and salons are tasked with collaborating to ensure the responsible removal and cost-effective recycling of waste materials. Introducing Recycle My Salon—a noteworthy industry initiative led by the HBSA and supported by numerous companies in the sector. The commitment is clear: rejecting landfill practices and actively contributing to the ongoing battle against climate change.

Why Recycle?
Every year, we use more than 200,000 tonnes of aluminium for product packaging, that’s equivalent to the weight of 33,000 African Bush Elephants! However, aluminium packaging extends beyond just drink cans. It’s also a key material in the production of aerosols, foil trays, wrapping foil, and bottle tops.
How Does It Work?
As you place an empty colour tube or a set of foils into your recycling box, it starts the recycling journey. The aluminium recycling process is straightforward — your consumption and recycling efforts contribute to the remelting process, enabling the reproduction of the same metal into various valuable aluminium products.
Step 1 - Collection
Recycle MY Salon collect your salon's recycling directly, arranging a date and time that suits you.
Step 2 - Sorting
The recyclable materials undergo sorting at a materials recovery facility (MRF). Magnets are used to separate metals, and the aluminium and steel items are compacted into bales.Step 3 - Reprocessing
The aluminium packaging bales are sent to a reprocessing plant, undergoing four stages: shredding, de-coating, melting, and casting. In the last phase, the molten aluminium is moulded into ingots, each weighing 27 tonnes.Step 4 - Rolling
The ingots are put into a mill, where they undergo rolling to produce sheet aluminium, a material used in crafting new packaging.Buy Your Recycling Pack
