Hair Trend Predictions for 2025
Published date 12 December 2024
As we approach 2025, within the professional hair industry colourists are eager for fresh ideas, techniques and most importantly trends, that are going to set the creative scene within salons. We sat down with Education Team members, Sara Simpson and Adam Murphy, our hair colour experts who have an immense amount of knowledge on all things hair colour, to get their predictions and insights into what the hairdressing industry has to bring in 2025.
Sara loves getting her passion from being creative with nature and enjoys recreating natural tones in hair from everyday objects. Adam is all about those details, such as making small tweaks to clients that can completely transform a look while enhancing their natural beauty. Let’s dive into their thoughts on 2025’s colour trends…
What are your biggest hair colour trend predictions for 2025?
Adam:
"This winter, expect a shift towards more natural shades. Lived-in blondes with soft lowlights and neutral tones will dominate, adding dimension to sun-kissed looks. We’ll also see subtle ‘expensive brunette’ understated, elegant shades that focus on tonal depth and effortless beauty. On the flip side, vivid colours are making a strong comeback. With improved colour technology and conditioning products, vibrant shades like neon pinks and blues can now exist with healthy, shiny hair…a game-changer for creative colouring."
Sara:
“2025 will lean heavily into Mocha Mousse Hair, inspired by Pantone’s colour of the year. It’s a cool, dimensional bronde with beiges and chocolatey tones, often paired with soft blonde ribbons for contrast. Techniques like balayage, ribbon highlights, and babylights will help create this warm, luxurious look.”
What colour and techniques would you like to see more of in salons?
Adam:
"I’d love to see more softness and dimension in colour work. Subtle warmth or depth in strategic areas can enhance a haircut’s shape and overall style. It’s time to move away from one-dimensional toners and embrace understated complexity."
Sara:
"More block colour with soft ribbons of lighter hues! This encourages clients to visit the salon more frequently. As colourists, we need to rekindle the creativity in colour work to inspire younger stylists and remind them what truly innovative colouring looks like."
What colour trends do you want to bring back?
Adam:
“Exaggerated dip dyes and dramatic ombre! These styles show both technical skill and creative formulating, which I feel has been missing these last few years.”
Sara:
“To me, balayage and foilage techniques are starting to feel overdone. I’d love to bring back bold, creative colours that are fun and inspiring! Glossing services are another trend I would like to see more of, as they allow clients to experiment with colour more frequently without having to compromise on hair health.”
What don’t you want to see back in salons?
Adam:
"Dark underneath, light on top. Although maybe I’m getting older and most readers may not have witnessed this! I do think a modern twist with more subtle contrasts could work, however.”
Let’s Recap:
We are obsessed with these trend predictions and we can’t wait to see if any of these actually get implemented within the new year! Let’s quickly recap what Sara and Adam predict for 2025:
- Natural dimension
Lived-in blondes and expensive brunettes will dominate the hair industry.
- Mocha mousse hair
This rich, yet cool-toned brunette will be the next big hair trend thanks to Pantone.
- The revival of vivid colour
The rise of vivid colour is becoming more mainstream. Especially with the mix of conditioning products so clients can experience both vivid and healthy hair together.
- Glossing services
A low-commitment yet high-impact way clients can change up their look regularly, whilst again maintaining that healthy look.
- Upping the creativity game
We could expect a shift in salon creativity from overdone techniques to more fresh, artistic approaches to colour.
