How to Master Social Media in Your Salon
Published date 07 April 2025

In today’s competitive professional hair & beauty industry, filling up your salon space with new clients is becoming more challenging than ever. Fortunately, there is one important skill that can ultimately solve this problem: your social media presence. If the thought of content creation and social media leaves you overwhelmed, don’t fear!
We’ve teamed up with Ben Lifton, social media consultant and founder of social media marketing agency Big Little Content, to bring you an immersive and interactive course designed to transform hairdressers into confident content creators. So, if you’re struggling with your social media presence, then keep reading to get the inside social media scoop…
What exciting updates can we expect to see in your revamped course with Alan Howard Education?
"Think of this course as a greatest hits album, bringing together all the biggest pain points hairdressers face when creating content (ones I’ve seen firsthand over the past seven years) and giving you the solutions to tackle them. The workshop is designed with a natural flow of peaks and troughs, keeping you engaged and ensuring you absorb as much as possible throughout the day."
What are your top three takeaways hairdressers will gain from this course?
"1. You'll learn the exact methods top creators use to make content. No guesswork, no gatekeeping. I’ll break down all the secrets they don’t want you to know so you can apply them yourself."
"2. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all strategy. You’ll walk away with a tailored skillset, knowing exactly how to create content that elevates your brand and takes it to the next level."
"3. More content, more revenue, that’s the ultimate goal. Implement what you learn, and watch as high-ticket clients are drawn to your brand like a magnet."
Are there any must-have tools or equipment you recommend for hairdressers when shooting content?
"A smart phone. A handheld LED Light (we recommend Looth), a suction tripod (we recommend Looth) and x2 lapel mics."
What advice would you give to hairdressers who are just starting to showcase their work on social media?
"It gets easier; trust me. I know the fears and anxieties that come with creating content, showing up on social media, and making it look good. I’ve worked with over 7,000 hairdressers, and I know that if you apply what I teach, you’ll transform into a confident content creator. And please, stop comparing yourself to others. Social media should feel like a playground, if you’re not having fun, it’s a sign something needs to change."
What are some common social media or content mistakes you see that hairdressers should avoid?
"1. Stop trying to be like your favourite creators. What works for them might not work for you. Instead, focus on your clients’ hair struggles and create content that solves their problems while showcasing your skills."
"2. Learn to delegate. You don’t have to do everything yourself. If you have a team, get them involved in your content strategy. If you’re self-employed, collaborate with other like-minded small businesses. There’s no prize for doing it all alone."
"3. Ditch the vanity metrics. Pay attention to what gets the most saves and shares—those are the real indicators of value. If a certain type of content brings in new clients, keep doing it. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, just figure out what works, then lather, rinse, repeat for exponential success."
Why is it important that hairdressers book this course?
"Because this is the only course you need for social media and content creation. I guarantee you’ll leave with a completely transformed skill set and ready to drive real growth in your business and increase your bottom line. Invest in the course, apply what you learn, and watch the results speak for themselves."
