How To Achieve Old Money Blonde
With the new year slowly unfolding, salons are back in business and ready to take on the 2025 grind. But if January blues have you feeling a little uninspired, don’t worry - we’re here to fill you in on the trending hair shade that’s set to dominate the hair colour world this season - Old Money Blonde.
Want to recreate the Old Money Blonde look in your salon? We’ve teamed up with our Alan Howard Educator, Sara Simpson, to recreate this sophisticated and timeless shade using Quif Professional. Let’s dive into how to achieve Old Money Blonde perfection.
What is Old Money Blonde?
Within the world of hair colour, Old Money Blonde is known as a seamless blend of warm and cool tones that creates a soft, rich and natural blonde. Ideal for clients seeking an understated look, Old Money Blonde enhances the hair’s natural beauty, adding dimension and brightness without the harsh contrasts or upkeep of high-maintenance colouring. Sara adds, “When we think of Old Money, we think of effortless luxury. This look will definitely give the client a lived-in, low-maintenance feel that we’re definitely going to be seeing more of this year.” Sara also adds, “I particularly love the Old Money Blonde for its ability to deliver dimension while still embracing the hair’s natural golden tones that don’t completely change up the clients look.”
How To Achieve Old Money Blonde with Quif
Our model started as a level 9 base and a subtle, grown-out balayage. Sara tells us, “Having a client with a dark, grown-out root is perfect for achieving the Old Money Blonde, as it naturally contributes to that lived-in, more effortless look.”
Here’s what we used for the perfect lift:
- 15g Magi:light Bond Enforcing Premium Lightener
- 30ml 10 Vol/3% Magi:fuel
Sara began to section the model's hair using the hot cross bun technique, combining balayage and weave techniques to apply the lightener evenly throughout the head. Sara especially focused on creating a bright, face-framing effect by using fine weaves around the front for a softer and brighter look. The lightener was left to process until the hair had visibly lifted to the desired level. Once achieved, Sara removed the foils and mixed:
Root Smudge
- 30ml Magi:gloss 7:13/7AG
- 45ml Magi:gloss Activator
Tone
- 40ml Magi:gloss 10:0/10N
- 20ml Magi:gloss 9:02/9NV
- 150ml of Magi:gloss Activator
To achieve a seamless root blend, Sara added the root smudge mix to the top of the head and applied the tone evenly throughout the entire head. Sara explains, “Using a gloss is perfect when creating the Old Money Blonde as it is all about enhancing the multi-dimensional look whilst adding a stunning shine that screams luxury! Not to mention gloss colours are fantastic for hair health to keep it in ultimate condition.”
Fast forward 20 minutes, and the hair was rinsed, shampooed, and ready for styling. And here are the results!

Top Tip: To maintain this luxurious shade, steer your clients away from the purple shampoo to avoid stripping any warm undertones that make Old Money Blonde so elegant! Instead, recommend a colour-safe shampoo such as the [wa]shed Vivid Bloom Colour Lock UV Protect shampoo from Shed, to lock in the colour.
